Am7b5 is the ii in G harmonic minor, D7b9 (another choice could be D7b13) is a common v chord, and then to the i, Gm...so thats all diatonic to g harmonic minor A7b9 is a sub for the Am7b5 (ii chord), D7 is the V7,D7b9 is just an extention of that, G7b9 is a sub for the Gm7 (ichord) The Gbmaj 7 is from tritone substitution in F (technically should be Gb7 of Gb7b5) and the C7b5 brings is the V that brings us back to F and important thing to realize is, in jazz... a lot of it is just what sounds good. If every song remained diatonic and only modulated to the IV or V keys....things would get pretty boring. theory should be taken with a grain of salt |
